Casa Magna was built in the early days of Akumal as a Moorish style mansion facing the sea. It has been lovingly maintained and updated to keep pace with the times but has retained its creator's vision of a castle-like home looking out to sea from a rocky coastline. The Moorish style is unique to a select few homes in Akumal and is quite impressive to experience.

Upon entering this walled estate the interior courtyard opens to a grassy lawn and front walkway punctuated with tropical palms, banana trees and flowering shrubs. The front walk passes through a free-standing domed archway on its way to the front door, a clue of what is to come. After ascending a few steps you arrive at the pool deck with the pool to the left and the front door directly ahead.

Inside, on the lower level the entrance opens to a spacious foyer with stained glass windows and a cathedral ceiling dome above. Arches on the upper level hallway support the dome. Pointed arches over columns can be found throughout the villa and are part of the Moorish architectural style. They give Casa Magna a regal ambiance and open up the interior, creating a feeling of space and elegance.

Straight ahead from the foyer is the sunken living room with a serpentine built-in couch that lines the perimeter of the room. The living room has a coffee table and entertainment center with satellite TV, VCR, DVD and stereo. Windows on the ocean side provide light and a sea view. There is also a slider to a sea side courtyard which has an exterior lounge area. To the right of the entrance foyer is a well equipped gourmet kitchen, fully accessorized, and with a breakfast bar and an informal dining table. Just outside the kitchen is the formal dining room which seats 8 people and overlooks the sunken living room. A glass slider in the dining room opens to the ocean courtyard. Also on the lower level is an air conditioned office with wireless internet connection, cell phone and fax service upon request. In the office there is a queen size futon couch. A half bathroom nearby.

A stairway from the foyer leads to the upper level where there are three large bedrooms, a salon/living room and a small auxiliary bedroom. The master suite is quite spacious and has a king size bed with a slider to an ocean balcony/terrace with table and chairs. There is a tiled master bathroom with sunken tub/shower and partial ocean view. The small auxiliary bedroom is nearby and has two twin beds. The master bedroom also has satellite TV, VCR and a DVD player. The second upper level bedroom also has a king size bed, ocean view balcony (shared with the master) and a walk through closet that leads to a fully tiled bathroom with shower. The third upstairs bedroom has a king size bed, a smaller private balcony with ocean view, and another walk through closet to a full bathroom with shower. This bathroom is shared with the upper level living room which is a very comfortable space with two plush sofas and a chair ro match. Arches on one side open up to the ceiling dome above the foyer and a garden/pool view balcony is off the end of the living room. This balcony is a nice place to enjoy the sunset.

Outside, the pool is large (26 ft. x 60 ft.) and has ample space on the deck for chaise lounges and a table and chairs. There are 2 grills (one gas and one charcoal) and an outdoor shower. The pool is a fine place to sunbathe, swim, cookout on the barbecues or just relax.
